This confidence is one of the attractive things about Latvia. Riga is a bustling, cosmopolitan capital, with a beautiful old town and gorgeous art nouveau district. There is plenty to do and see.
Beach Resorts to visit on your holiday in Latvia.
Jurmala is a wonderful beach resort only a 20 minute drive from Riga, with a white sandy coastline stretching for 33 kilometres backed by beautiful pine forests it's a wonderful choice for a beach holiday. Jurmala is very picturesque with clapper board houses on tree lined roads, it has some lovely Spa hotels. During Soviet times it was the playground of Russia's rich and famous and still today its a very fashionable destination, we think its Eastern Europe’s answer to the Hampton’s!
Liepaja, on Latvia's west coast is more sedate and far under developed than Jurmala, and has a wonderful beach, with the finest white sand. Although Liepaja is Latvia's third largest town with a population of around 100,000 thousand the resort feels very relaxed, this is a place to really unwind and soak up the sun. In the town wooden architecture sits side by side with art nouveau buildings, its a lovely place to enjoy a city and beach holiday. Two busy times are at the end of July when the Beach party festival means people stay up all night and party! Then in the second week of August the Rock festival means it becomes very lively again, depending on your preference these are times to either make sure you don't miss or avoid!
Places to visit on your Latvia holiday.
Nearby Karosta is home to military buildings and the infamous Karosta Prison, a prison that claims never to have had an escapee. Today the prison is a very interesting place to visit and if you dare you can even stay the night...!
Sigulda has been nick named 'Latvia's little Switzerland'due to its hilly landscape, the rest of the Baltic's are, in comparison, very flat so this area is refreshing different. This area is also home to the charming Gauja River that flows through the Gauja National Park, this beautiful park is a great place to relax and explore. For the more adventurous it is possible to canoe on the river and is ideal for beginners.
Sigulda is a historic town dominated by its Castle ruins. There is a cable car offering stunning views of the countryside, and this area is particularly beautiful in the autumn as the tree's become a haze of burnt oranges and gold's. For those thrill seekers out there, Sigulda was once the home of the USSR bobsleigh team, the track remains and is still a popular activity for those who want to experience a stomach churning, adrenalin pumping ride of there lives!
Cesis, a very pretty castle town close by, is a lovely place to visit. With an ancient old town and market square, it is an ideal base for walkers and lovers of history, wishing to explore the area and take advantage of the many nature trails.

"I would definitely rate the holiday excellent, especially the hotel, where the service and food & room were all very good…we really enjoyed it all, including the ballet."
