Vilnius in Summer Video

Vilnius in Winter Video

Lithuania is the southern most of the Baltic countries, the largest and arguably the least known.

The capital of Lithuania is Vilnius, a vibrant, optimistic and cultured city. A Vilnius City Break is a perfect introduction to Lithuania. Cobbled streets and stunning architecture, together with church domes and spires filling the skyline make Vilnius incredibly picturesque.

Lithuania has so much to offer as a fresh, exciting and interesting holiday destination, and all for incredible value for money.Come on holiday to just Lithuania, and let us tailor make a holiday for you, or choose one of our specialist Soviet Heritage Tours or visit Lithuania as part of a longer Baltic Tour.

Places to visit on your Lithuanian holiday.

30 minutes outside of Vilnius is the village of Trakai and the beautiful Trakai Historical National Park. Trakai is one of the oldest villages in Lithuania dating back to the 12th century. The main attraction is Trakai Castle, restored and resplendent it sits on an island in the middle of Lake Galve.

Lithuania's second city is Kaunas; the old town here is lovely. Kaunas has a nice shopping area, and some good restaurants and museums. On the outskirts is Ninth Fort, this was used by the Germans as a concentration camp during the war and the Russians kept it as a very harsh prison, it makes an interesting and thought provoking visit.

The spa town of Druskininkai is Lithuania's southern most towns, close to the Polish and Belarus border. Near the Nemunas River and surrounded by pine forests Druskininkai is a sanatorium and until recently was a place only to visit if you were ill and needed to recuperate, however in the last few years Druskininkai itself has enjoyed something of a revival! Beautiful hotels have opened, that offer luxurious accommodation along with wonderful spa treatments.

Klaipeda - Lithuania's third city on the west coast is a commercial port and has a very attractive town, but its main point of interest to the tourist is it is the gateway to the beautiful Curonian spit.

A Lithuania holiday offers a beautiful and relaxing stay.

This beautiful area of geographic importance, with the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other, offers the tourist a tranquil and relaxing stay. You can travel down to the sleepy little village of Nida at the bottom, stopping off at some of the sand dune viewing stations, if you climb the sand dunes you will be rewarded for your efforts by seeing marvellous views of the lagoon and Baltic Sea.

Eventually you will arrive in Nida. A sleepy little town, that wakes up a little in the summer, only to doze again in the autumn. It's a lovely place, small wooden Bed & Breakfasts offer basic accommodation, and there are a few restaurants but mostly tourists and locals alike come to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, sand dunes and lovely beach.

If you travel north along the coast line you will arrive in Palanga, this is a great seaside town, small and friendly with 18 km of lovely sandy beach backed by sand dunes and pine trees. This is a wonderful choice for a beach holiday for all the family, restaurants are inexpensive, and ice creams cost about 30p! You'll struggle to hear another British accent as Lithuanians and Russians mainly holiday here.

"Just to let you know that our Baltic Tour through Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius was a great success. The hotels were excellent, the people friendly and even the weather was splendid. Really, this was one of our best holidays for years and my thanks to you for organising it so well."
at O’Byrne July 2006

To be honest, I thought last years holiday in Estonia and especially in the beautiful Saaremaa was going to be difficult to beat but our Lithuanian holiday turned out to be equally special and good.

You will be pleased to hear that your arrangements went like clockwork – everything was on time and as it should be. The Ramada in Vilnius was one of the best hotels we have stayed in and we also very much enjoyed our few days with Linas’s delightful parents. We were made so welcome we were genuinely sorry to leave. And we also so much enjoyed the kayaking with Linas – this was without doubt one of the highlights.

And to finish our holiday we too very much enjoyed Nida. Although we were anticipating self-catering, a superb breakfast was provided and the location was ideal. We really liked Nida and the spit.

We did thoroughly enjoy our holiday and thank you again for your attention, suggestions and superb arrangements. And maybe next year we may consider the delights of Latvia.

With all best wishes,
The Holiday and Lithuania
Brilliant! We both really enjoyed it. I've not been to the Baltic States before, although we've visited most of Central & Eastern Europe. I certainly intend to go back and would warmly recommend Lithuania. Kaunas was very interesting and Vilnius was outstanding. As good as L'viv in Western Ukraine (although different) - and that's high praise in my book!
